Cohort Training Pilot Overview

The Cohort Training Pilot allows work2future to test a new approach to offering in-depth employment-training opportunities. Participants will be able to take available courses in cohort groups, instead of as isolated individuals. Placing adult learners in a “cohort” of their peers has proven effective in a broad range of training programs. In addition, course fees will be fully subsidized by work2future, inclusive of materials and lab costs, if any.

The opportunity to participate in the Cohort Training Pilot is available to any eligible work2future customer who has not been enrolled in a training program since January 2007. (Single-session workshops do not count towards this requirement.)

Eligibility requirements: Customers must have completed WorkKeys assessment with at least a Bronze certificate. Customers must have completed résumé critique and, when applicable, transferable-skills requirements needed for referral to training. Customers must also have completed labor market information research into their particular career field of interest. (For the Cohort Training Pilot, customers are required to conduct just one informational interview, instead of three, as part of their labor market research.)

As a first step towards possible participation in this pilot, please review the list of courses below and indicate your interest by pre-registering on-line for those that you would want to attend.

Click on each course to learn about its content, length and any prerequisites that students must already have completed in order to take the course, as well as to pre-register your interest in the course. The pre-registration deadline is Friday, January 15, 2010.

Please Note: While pre-registration is required for this pilot, it does not guarantee participation. Courses must have a sufficient number of pre-registrants before they can be offered. We shall notify all pre-registrants within a week after the pre-registration deadline about the status of the courses in which they expressed interest.

All the basic requirements and exceptions regarding subsidized training apply. Customers who pre-register for more than one course will have to choose which one to take if more than one of their choices is offered.

Final registration for courses will be conducted through a work2future Training Specialist. We expect that the first course offerings will begin in late January or early February.

If you have questions about the Cohort Training Pilot, please contact your work2future Talent Coach or e-mail Cohort.Training@sanjoseca.gov
